Thank you cookiemonster

Today i awake after a good night’s sleep. It’s one of the best nights I’ve had in a while. The day is about to bring some interesting events today. I see my friend César at school and he tells me that he’s going to McAllen today. Later he asks if I wanna come along, I gladly accept, we eat lunch and agree to meet later on so we can go to the bus station together. Before we know it, it’s 5:30PM and time to hit the road. … 10:00PM hits and we find ourselves at a Taco Bell in McAllen. Yum!! I’m so excited to be touching “American” soil once again. Even though I’m comfortable in Mexico, everytime I step in U.S. soil I feel at home. A beautiful strange feeling that’s hard to describe. Well, it’s getting late, it’s 12:32AM and I’m falling asleep, I’ll be posting this from the lovely neighbor’s wireless signal: ‘cookiemonster’ :)

Extreme Mission Trip : Day Three

On our third day of our trip, we awake in a small building/shack where our group slept last night. The pastor asked us to awake at 6:30 and when the clock strikes 6:40 and nobody’s moving, i decide to ‘encourage’ everyone to open their eyes a tad and consider waking up by turning on some tunes, namely the Rocky Balboa theme, from the Rocky Soundtrack… to be continued…

Lacandona Rainforest, Part 1

At 6:30 this afternoon I’ll be leaving on a week-long trip to the Selva Lacandona (Lacandon Jungle), deep in the “unexplored” areas of Mexico. The purpose of our trip is to make a documentary about the life and needs of the Lacandon Indians, to talk to the indians about hygiene and care for their babies, and to help repair the roof of a church there. Really, though at first the trip sounds like an Indiana Jones-type adventure, it’s not that risky anymore, since the “unexplored” areas are really not too unexplored anymore. One of our leaders went to scope out the area a couple of weeks ago, and discovered that a paved road reaches all the way to where we’re going.

The trip will be one week long, leaving this saturday afternoon and returning a week from tomorrow, sunday. April 8-16. I’m going as the photography director for the documentary part of our trip, as well as the creative director for the video part of our documentary. Needless to reiterate, I’m very excited about the trip, and I’ll be writing to my blog every night, though I probably won’t be able to post until I get back. I still haven’t packed, and I need to make space on my internal HD so I can download the pictures that we all take. :) Wish me luck! See u all when I get back.
